Etta Bancroft struggles to find her feet after her bullying husband dies and her selfish, ambitious children drag her from her lovely home to live in an ugly modern bungalow in the English village of Willowwood.

But her life changes when she finds a horribly mutilated filly in the snow in the nearby woods.

With the help of friends in the village she nurses the horse, which she names Mrs Wilkinson, back to health.

The filly charms everyone and tests reveal her to be a spectacularly well-bred racehorse. Soon she’s back on the track being ridden by Amber, the goddaughter of arrogant, handsome trainer Rupert Campbell-Black.

But can Mrs Wilkinson and Etta tough it out in the ruthless world of horseracing?

It’s typical Jilly Cooper fare – lots of fascinating characters and plenty of bed-hopping, backstabbing and clever quips.

A tad slow in places but overall Jump! – her 20th novel – is a rollicking ride.
