Witchcraft isn’t usually a dangerous profession in the rural part of Discworld known as The Chalk.

For 16-year-old Tiffany Aching being the area’s only witch means a never-ending stream of people with problems. But suddenly the mood changes – instead of being regarded with respect she’s now treated with fear and suspicion.

This is the 38th novel in Pratchett’s popular Discworld series and the fourth focusing on Tiffany.

As with most of his tales there’s a mystery to be solved (Who is the Cunning Man and how can Tiffany defeat him?) and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments too.

Fans will also be delighted by the slew of guest appearances by well-known characters such as Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg and Tif-fany’s pint-sized protectors, the hilarious Nac Mac Feegles.

Although this one is technically pitched at younger readers, adults will enjoy it too. Hopefully there’ll be a follow-up, especially now that Pratchett is delving into Tiffany’s love-life.
