This is the touching story of the meeting of strangers, the finding of family and the appreciation of life.

Rated: 4/5

A student named Daniel makes a decision motivated by a moment of poverty and 30-odd years later he’s faced with the consequences. As he lies in a hospice dying, he tells his friend Maggie about his past and the children he’s fathered who don’t know who he is. In various parts of London are Lydia, Dean and Robyn, all living their separate lives with their own ideas of how they came to be in this world.

Told from each person’s perspective it feels like four stories in one, and the reader is given an intimate look into the lives of each member of this “family”, joined at first only by DNA. Lydia is the lonely millionaire, Dean the down-and-out father and Robyn the precocious student, three people who wouldn’t normally have crossed paths, joined at the moment they need it most. This is the touching story of the meeting of strangers, the finding of family and the appreciation of life.
