Lady Lea is part of the stellar line-up for the massive DJ in the Park event, taking place in Joburg on Saturday 12 April. We thought it was high time we caught up with the SA's favourite damsel of the decks. Here's what she's been up to:

We’re giving away 10 double tickets to DJ in the Park, valued at R300 each to give away! Go here to find out how you can enter.

What do you think differentiates your sound from other DJs in the country right now?

I have always had a distinctive “funky” sound … no matter where or what I play people know they are going to bounce and groove to my music. Alot of djs just play what is current and popular, I play what I feel represents me and my sound.

How did you start out in the business?

I was always a lover of playing music to people, and finding new music that people hadn’t heard before. I followed the footsteps of my Brother DJ Morgan and decided to try mixing music. Eventually after many years I started playing in clubs and releasing my own tracks onto compilation albums under my brand. Since then I have produced many tracks and released 16 compilations.

Describe your first ever gig?

I begged the owner of DNA to let me bring my own speakers and equipment and play in one of the chill out rooms for the whole night for no pay. I often found myself playing to 4 walls or the cleaners, but it was ok, because when even 1 person danced to my music, it made me happy.

Every musician or people in entertainment have stories of paying their dues, do you remember a job you had to to earn money that wasn't at all related to music?

Yes I worked in Steers for 1 week, but never got paid because it was 1 week of training, but it wasn’t for me. I needed more of a challenge. Then I sold holiday insurance, and I also felt lil sit was so repetitive and boring that I also decided to leave and continue with my passion- music.

In terms of DJing and producing, how have you embraced the growing technology that comes in the territory

I am very happy to receive new toys! I love testing new equipment and finding new little tricks that I couldn’t do before. In some ways I really miss the old vinyl djing , because of the experience of sourcing the music and being the only one with a classic record that you could play for years, but there are also positives to the digital transition that has made it much easier to get new music and carry it around with you to gigs.

Describe the production process of putting a song together, how does it begin with the two of you?

It really depends on who comes up with an element of the song first. You can start with the beats or percussion first, then vocals then melody and baseline, or you can start with vocals and write around that. Every song is done in a different way from start to finish

What can people expect from your set?

Its going to be funky, happy, bouncy and sexy, SA Style!!

As a female DJ, any insight for any young girl wanting to follow in your footsteps?

If its your passion then go for it! Being a female in the industry really has more upsides than downsides. Keep pushing for gigs, be unique, throw your own parties headlining yourself and get into production and music theory as early as possible. It will be a huge plus point in the future.

Being a DJ is quite hectic specially with the hours needed, has motherhood affected your career and how do you juggle to two?

Yes it can get hectic. I am lucky that I have a good support system at home with my family and my nanny. I definitely don’t party as late as I used to, because when I get home I can’t sleep half the day away anymore. So I get a lot less sleep, But its all worth it! I love what I do, and I love my baby boy and I am very lucky that I have amazing family and friends around me who help and support me along the way!
