We chatted to Claude Schippers, the winner of ever-popular Hectic Nine-9 mini-adventure series Survive It. Here’s what he had to say about all the personal challenges he had to battle through!

What did you learn from the whole experience?

How important teamwork is, and not to give up on your team when they need you most.

What was the biggest/hardest challenge for you?

The Race of Risk; it was a team challenge in which we had to race up a mountain. Along the way there where three challenges: one was identifying and remembering things, the next was making a stretcher and carrying team members on it; and the last was making pine tea from pine cones, but there were no matches, and we struggled to make a fire to heat the tea.

How confident were you before the grand finale? Did you think you stood a chance?

When I found out I was on the Red Rascals team I knew we had a good chance of winning as most of the team members were pretty strong. [Claude was the underdog of the group, but when one of the last challenges was the height and speed challenge he knew he was in with a chance as he wasn't scared. He knew he could win.]

Is there anything you’d like to change or do differently if you got the chance?

On one challenge none of the scouts could get the fire going! I would have practised getting a fire going without matches.

What did you learn from the other contestants?

Never give up, no matter how tough it is.

What advice do you have for future contestants?

Make sure you know how to light a fire, and put everything into what you do.

What’s your motto in life?

Never give up and be dedicated to what you do.
