Betty Burkett had cancer of the gall bladder. Her husband Burkett had lung cancer. Their diagnosis came just six weeks apart - and their deaths less than three days.

Till death do us part...

The couple passed away at home within 72 hours of each other, with Dennis succumbing to her disease first.

Betty (83) and Dennis (84) had both battled cancer for the last 10 months, the Birmingham Mail reports.

“They looked after each other until the end, " their daughter Gail Kelly said.

“My mum was ironing and doing housework right up until a few days before she went into hospital for the last time. I think my dad had a touch of Alzheimer’s in the end, but my mum would still make him toast and look after him."

The couple, who wed in 1955, are survived by Gail (59), their son Wayne (54), two grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
