Harvey Weinstein hired Cressida Bonas on her acting merits not her royal connections.

The blonde star was thrust into the limelight when she started dating Britain's Prince Harry, but the pair called time on their relationship in April 2014 after nearly two years together.

'I didn’t cast her because she is linked to Prince Harry, I cast her because she was perfect in her audition'

Cressida is now forging an acting career and impressed Hollywood mega producer Harvey when he hired her for upcoming movie Tulip Fever.

"I didn’t cast her because she is linked to Prince Harry, I cast her because she was perfect in her audition. I’ll cast her again and so will a lot of people," Harvey told British newspaper The Sun.

“When the movie comes out, people will see."

Tulip Fever boasts an all star cast including Cara Delevingne, Dame Judi Dench, Christoph Waltz and Jack O'Connell.

It tells the story of an artist in the 17th century who falls in love with a married young woman who he's commissioned to paint. They invest in the tulip market to try and forge a future together.

"Cressida is great in Tulip Fever and people will see what a fantastic actress she is, so beautiful too. It will be the first of many, many roles for her, I’m sure. I 100 per cent get the sense from her that she has no interest in celebrity and wants to be an actress.

“She is really hard-working and not taking advantage of any media profile," Harvey added.

Harvey is behind some of Hollywood's biggest films and has over 300 movie credits to his name. He bagged an Oscar in 1999 for Shakespeare in Love and has countless other accolades and awards.

His current film Big Eyes stars Amy Adams and he can't help but gush over how talented the redheaded actress is.

"This role is her most subtle. This is playing a shy character and it’s brilliant. Amy inhabited the character," he said.

“Big Eyes is about a woman who stands up for what she believes and Amy was the same over the Sony [hacking] story. She just said, ‘The hell with it.' She didn’t care to complain about emails that said how much she got paid. She stood up for herself, now I am for her.”
