Makes 24 MeatBalls

(3 per person) – serVes 8

MeatBalls

1 kg lean beef mince

1 small onion, very finely chopped

3 garlic cloves, crushed

5 ml (1 t) finely grated fresh ginger (optional)

5-7 ml (1-1½ t) ground cumin

10 ml (2 t) ground coriander

pinch each of ground nutmeg and cayenne pepper

salt and pepper

2 eggs, lightly whisked

15 ml (1 T) oil

Sambal

1 red onion, finely chopped

2 garlic cloves, crushed

¼ head cabbage, shredded

juice and zest of 2 lemons 15-30 ml (1-2 T) chopped fresh mint and parsley salt to serve jasmine rice toasted sesame seeds

  1. MEATBALLS Mix the ingredients except the oil and shape into 24 small meatballs. Place on a tray and chill for 15 minutes.
  2. Brown in a little heated oil, cover and steam-fry until done.
  3. SAMBAL Mix the ingredients.
  4. TO SERVE Mix the rice and sesame seeds.
  5. Serve the meatballs on the rice with the sambal on the side.
