Not even Gareth Cliff’s campaign for Damon Kalvari could save him and partner Hayley Hammond from being eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing last night.

Not even Gareth Cliff’s campaign for 5FM’s breakfast show producer, Damon Kalvari, could save him and partner Hayley Hammond from being eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing. The couple managed to survive the first two weeks of the competition but were the third couple to be voted off in last night’s show.

The judges were tougher this week as they expected dancers to have improved at this stage of the competition. They weren’t impressed with Damon’s foxtrot, which Tebogo Kgobokoe described as “stomping”. The couple were placed at the bottom of the leader board and had a dance-off with Mpho “Popps” Modikoane and his partner, Nombulelo Hlathi, with viewers predicting Damon to be the next to go.Judges Michael Wentink and Samantha Peo chose to save Mpho.

Damon has mixed feelings about leaving the popular dance show. “I am very happy to have my life back,” he says. But adds, “It was an amazing challenge that I didn’t meet completely. I deserve to leave.” The very-entertaining-to-watch Damon admits to not having been able to stand on one leg before the competition but says he’s definitely improved, though he won’t miss the time he spent rehearsing. “It took over my life,” he says.

“I am going to miss Damon. He made every practice session an adventure,” says Hayley. The couple are rather disappointed about their early exit from the show because they’d planned a hot cha-cha for next week’s show that viewers now will never get to see.

With seven celebrities left, the competition is getting tougher but Damon predicts Mpho will be this year’s winner.
