It was probably the most fashionable demonstration we've ever seen! David Tlale and his entourage of models strutted into Nelson Mandela, carrying South African flags and placards proclaiming Africa is beautiful. We chat to David about his collection

The most innovative designer in South Africa, David Tlale just returned from New York Fashion Week. His showing at this year’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week was the same collection he presented in New York. The show was meant to start at 11.30 but true to form, David started fashionably late, until he and his entourage of models strutted into Nelson Mandela, carrying South African flags and placards proclaiming Africa is beautiful. It was probably the most fashionable demonstration we've ever seen! His navy blue lace showstopper was modelled by former Miss South Africa Tatum Keshwar and judging by the raucous applause, David had certainly done it again!

We ask David about his collection.

What is the collection called?

“The collection is called Elementary Metropolis, focusing on a woman that works, lives and parties in the city and wants to look good all the time.”

Why did you choose Nelson Mandela square?

“Why not the Square? Because people are here, people are here to shop. People don’t even know what happens in the fashion industry. So we thought let’s bring it to the people, randomly and with no plan. Ok here we are with our collection which we showcased at New York fashion week. Feel it, touch it and come and buy it most importantly.”
