Denzel Washington doesn't put himself in the same category as other celebrities. The actor is currently promoting action flick The Equalizer and has taken home two Oscars in his career - in 2002 for Training Day and in 1990 for Glory. Despite being a household name, Denzel doesn't think he fits in with the rest of the A-list.

'People pigeonhole me in with all the other celebrities. I don't consider myself to be one'

"People pigeonhole me in with all the other celebrities. I don't consider myself to be one," he shrugged to German TV Movie magazine, adding he doesn't take his fortune for granted.

"When I bought my first home, I thought, 'Wow, my own house,' every time I came up the drive. Even now, I still have similar thoughts when I go home."

Denzel has appeared in a host of fast-paced movies recently. In The Equalizer he fights Russian gangsters; in last year's 2 Guns he was on the run after infiltrating a drug cartel; in 2012's Flight he saved passengers as drunken hero pilot Whip Whitaker.

He turns 60 in December, but there's no chance he'll slow down.

"Do you think I would ditch all this just because I turn 60?" he asked incredulously.

"That's just ridiculous. I don't believe in retiring and doing nothing."

Rather than fete his milestone birthday in a spectacular fashion, Denzel plans to take a couple of weeks' holiday and spend time with his family.

"It's a good opportunity to reflect and to take a step back," he reasoned.

The Equalizer also stars Chloë Grace Moretz and hits UK and US cinemas tomorrow.
