The hijackers drove off with Sheila still in the car.

On Tuesday Sheila Pilling, a disabled woman, and her husband, John, were the victims of a hijacking in New Germany near Durban.

Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane, police spokesperson, says Sheila was later found in Molweni. The couple’s car was found in KwaDabeka.

Sheila and John (89) were in Sarnia Street on Thursday when three armed men approached them. John, who was in the driver’s seat, was shot twice – once in the face and once in the upper body.

The suspects then drove off with Sheila still in the car. Johan was taken to a nearby hospital.

A task team made up of police and neighbourhood watch members as well as volunteers was immediately dispatched to search for the car and Sheila. Sheila was found not long after, having sustained only minor injuries.

The couple is recovering in hospital.
