Poor Kai was left abandoned at a train station in Scotland -- but the Shar-pei could have his pick of new owners! People from around the world are clamouring to adopt him after his sad tale went viral online.

The cross Shar-Pei that was left at Ayr station in the south of Ayrshire, appeared in newspapers worldwide the Scottish Animal Welfare Society received calls from people in places as far afield as California and Tennessee.

The dog was wearing a microchip the AWS could use to identify him as Kai. They tracked down the person registered on the microchip as the owner, who claims they sold Kai in 2013 on Gumtree. Unfortunately they don’t have the address of the buyer.

The AWS hopes to get Kai a new home once he’d had an operation to fix his eyelids which droop down, causing his eyelashes to touch his eyes.

“He must have the operation, which is an everyday procedure. We can’t let him go before the operation so he’ll be with us for the next three to four weeks,” said a spokesperson for the AWS which is based in Glasgow.

When Kai, aged between two and three years old, was found he was tied to a fence outside the station with the case – containing a cushion, a toy, food and a bowl – next to him.
