Drunk Protea barred from flight

Cricket SA have confirmed that Aaron Phangiso was "sanctioned" for his recent drunken behaviour aboard a a flight from Mumbai to Dubai.

Cricket SA have confirmed that Aaron Phangiso was "sanctioned" for  his recent drunken behaviour aboard a a flight from Mumbai to Dubai.

While fully clad in Proteas kit, the 31-year-old Highveld Lions player allegedly offended flight personnel and fellow passengers, Afrikaans newspaper, Rapport reported yesterday.

Phangiso and his teammates were on their way back to Johannesburg via Dubai when the incident occurred on October 26 last year, following the Proteas' South Africa’s ODI series win.

Upon arrival in Dubai, Emirates Airline personnel refused to allow the spinner on the next flight to Johannesburg. Officials insisted he take a later flight to "sober up", the outlet reports.

Cricket SA confirmed today that Phangiso had been sanctioned for his behaviour, but insisted it was not the reason Phangiso was dropped from the ODI squad for the upcoming series against England.

Spokesperson Altaaf Kazi said CSA will not comment on player’s sanctions. “It’s a matter between the player and the organisation.”
