Dunay Darren saw today exactly how serious her husband, Afrikaans singer Kurt Darren’s, injuries are.

Kurt’s manager, Louis van Wyk, says he can just imagine how distraught Dunay must have been when she saw Kurt at the Netcare Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg, where he’s been transferred from the intensive care to high care unit. “We told Dunay Kurt had broken eight ribs but we didn’t go into details about his injuries and what he looks like, for instance that he’s wearing an eye patch and uses an oxygen mask when he struggles to breath.”

Dunay arrived in South Africa around 11 am this morning after flying from Athens in Greece to OR Tambo Airport in Johannesburg. She tweeted about how helpless she’d felt, and how out of sheer frustration she’d burst into tears at the airport in Athens.

Louis says Kurt is much better. He’s still in pain and occasionally has difficulty breathing but always has an oxygen mask on hand. It’s not yet known when he’ll be discharged.

Kurt and two friends, Marnus Bisschoff and Nadia van Rensburg, were involved in an accident on Saturday evening on the Kameelfontein Road near Pretoria when their vehicle left the road and landed in a ditch.

Marnus says his back still hurts but he’s feeling better every day. Nadia, who broke her leg in the accident, is also still in hospital. It’s not yet known when they’ll be discharged.
