With plenty of songs and music, humour and compassion, it’s a beautiful film you wouldn’t mind letting your children enjoy.

Animated fantasy

During the 1910 Great Flood in Paris an unfortunate flea named FRANCOEUR (voiced by Sean Lennon) gets caught up in a lab experiment, is vastly enlarged, becomes a monster and has the nervous city on the hop. An ambitious police chief wants to capture Francoeur for his own ends but is up against a motley bunch of characters who were there at the birth of the harmless monster – also a gifted musician – and won’t let him down, including Emile (Jay Harrington), an awkward projectionist, LUCILLE, a cabaret singer (Vanessa Paradis), and a proboscis monkey, Charles.

This is a quirky, intelligent French film with refined 3D animation. The meticulous detail is breathtaking and does justice to the finely drawn characters and rich, somewhat meandering, plot. With plenty of songs and music, humour and compassion, it’s a beautiful film you wouldn’t mind letting your children enjoy. And you’ll love it too.
