CIA spy Valerie Plame Wilson’s (Watts) personal and professional life comes under attack from the White House when her husband Joe (Penn) writes a newspaper article refuting America’s reasons for invading Iraq.

Director Liman’s (The Bourne Identity) political thriller follows Valerie in the months after 9/11 when she’s assigned to gather information on Iraq’s nuclear weapons programme.

Joe, a former ambassador, is drawn into the investigation. Contrary to their findings the US invades Iraq, claiming it does have weapons of mass destruction.

Watts and Penn deliver strong performances as the couple whose lives spiral into chaos when Valerie’s identity as an agent is leaked by a White House official in retaliation for Joe’s article – jeopardising her marriage, credibility and secret Middle East operations.

A taut, suspenseful thriller, the film works equally well telling a story about events with international repercussions and the lives of individuals.

Bonus: commentary by the real Valerie Plame and Joe Wilson.
