The recent global recession left the whole world reeling. In America hundreds of thousands of people lost their homes and jobs. What went wrong and why was it allowed to happen?

This excellent doccie explains the technicalities in a way everyone can understand.

It shows how the unchecked growth of the US financial services industry since the ’80s gave banks so much political clout they managed to deregulate their industry to the point where they could do whatever they wanted.

Soon executives were earning vast commissions for selling dodgy financial “products” as solid investments while fully aware they were actually worthless, creating a wealth bubble that simply had to burst.

And when the whole house of cards came down and trillions of dollars were lost the banks were bailed out by the US government while ordinary people suffered.

Worse still, the Obama administration has done nothing to ensure it won’t happen again.

A must-see for anyone interested in why the world is the way it is.

Bonus: featurette, deleted scenes, commentary.
