Dastan (Gyllenhaal) is an orphaned boy who’s rescued from the streets by the king of Persia and raised as a prince.

When the king’s brother persuades the prince and his brothers to invade the holy city of Alamut all hell breaks loose.

Unbeknown to the princes their evil uncle wants to get his hands on a holy dagger that can turn back time.

Then Dastan is framed for his father’s murder and reluctantly teams up with Princess Tamina, the ruler of Alamut, to protect the dagger.

Will they succeed?

The movie, based on the videogame, has lots of humour and action.

The dialogue is corny at times and the ending predictable, but there’s lots of chemistry between Gyllenhaal and Arterton and plenty of eye candy– including a buffed-up Gyllenhaal kitted out in armour and a skirt.

A fun popcorn movie for all ages.

Bonus: featurette.
