DVD review: Crank 2 - High Voltage

With its outrageous plot and nonstop mayhem Crank (2006) is one of the most thrilling action flicks you’ll ever see. Now hitman Chev Chelios (Statham) is back, despite seemingly dying at the end of the first film. After he literally falls out of the sky Chinese gangsters steal his heart, replacing it with an electric version, and Chelios and his stripper girlfriend (Smart) must find baddie Johnny Vang (Hsu) so he can get his heart back. Meanwhile Chelios needs constant recharging to stay alive - with car batteries, power lines, public sex.

The fast-paced action starts in the first second and doesn’t let up until the last frame. With cool camera work and editing, a healthy dose of absurd humour and touches of tongue-in-cheek surrealism this flick is way classy. By the way, every letter of that “LNVS” rating is deserved, so you know what you’re in for - but for action junkies this is an absolute must.

Action, 2009, 92 min.

With Jason Statham, Amy Smart and Art Hsu. Directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor. 18LNVS.

Rating: 3/5
