Animated fantasy

This lively, imaginative adventure from DreamWorks Studios has been aptly described as The Avengers for kids as it deals with disparate super-powered heroes who have to work together to save the world from a villain out to destroy it.

The spirit of winter, Jack Frost (voiced by Chris Pine), wakes up with amnesia and is recruited by the Guardians, a band of mythical beings that includes Father Christmas (Alec Baldwin doing a jovial Russian accent), the Tooth Fairy (Isla Fisher), the Easter Bunny (Hugh Jackman) and the silent Sandman. Jack has to help them fight the sinister boogeyman, Pitch (Jude Law), but Jack’s need to find out where he came from gets in the way.

The film offers an engaging twist on old characters and although Jack Frost and the Tooth Fairy might not resonate with SA audiences, the humour, riveting action and beautiful animation will have kids and adults spellbound.
