Soldier Colter Stevens (Gyllenhaal) wakes up on a train in the body of another man.

After eight minutes the train explodes and he’s sucked into the real world where it’s explained to him that a process allows him to relive the last eight minutes of someone’s life.

The people on the train have been killed by a bomb, so he can’t save them – but he must find the bomber who’s planning another attack.

By reliving the eight minutes Colter falls in love with another passenger (Monaghan) and begins to hope he can change events.

When a sci-fi film’s plot revolves around time travel and parallel worlds the expectation is that these themes will be explored in a clever way with plenty of twists.

Unfortunately this movie is not as smart as it thinks it is and the bomber is easily identifiable. The actors gain your sympathy but the ending will leave you scratching your head.

Bonus: commentary, featurettes.
