Sci-fi comedy.

2011. 84 min.

With Jessica Alba and Jeremy Piven.

Director: Robert Rodriguez.

PG.

Rating: 3/5

Spy Marissa Wilson (Alba) retires to raise a family with her husband (Joel McHale), but stepdaughter Rebecca (Rowan Blanchard) resents her presence while geeky stepson Cecil (Mason Cook) just tries to stay out of everyone’s way.

When the evil Timekeeper (Piven) starts to slow down time Rebecca and Cecil are recruited as spy kids and try to stop him.

How much you enjoy this fourth film in the franchise depends on how high your tolerance is for poop jokes and people running into walls. The opening, in which Marissa fights the Timekeeper while heavily pregnant, is cringeworthy and doesn’t bode well for the rest of the film. But the two kids are so likeable they win you over.

The director seems to use every crazy idea that comes into his head but his wild imagination keeps the plot unpredictable and the goofy spy inventions entertain.

Bonus: featurettes and deleted scenes.
