It’s a cut above the usual teen movie and even if you’ve left your teen years behind you’ll still enjoy it.

High school can be torture but this movie shows that with a little help from your friends you can survive it. The wallflower in the title refers to Charlie (Logan Lerman), a clever, shy and somewhat unusual boy who struggles to make friends. Two seniors, step-siblings Sam (Emma Watson) and Patrick (Ezra Miller), take him under their wing and introduce him to a new world of parties, romance and fun.

This is a typical coming-of-age movie and even though it’s a theme that’s been done many times before the film beautifully captures the high and lows of growing up. Watson, in her first post-Harry Potter role, proves her acting chops and Lerman of The Three Musketeers fame holds his own, but it’s Miller, as the flamboyant Patrick, who steals the show. It’s a cut above the usual teen movie and even if you’ve left your teen years behind you’ll still enjoy it.
