Easy on the eye

Clueless about how to perfect your eye make-up? Here’s a handy guide to pretty peepers.

EYESHADOW

  • Apply dry with a soft concealer or eyeshadow brush for a lighter look during the day or with a slightly wet brush for more intense colour.
  • Light brown and pinks go especially well with hazel eyes.

CREAM SHADOWS

  • Blend with your finger for best results.
  • Never use cream eyeshadow over powder – it will become cakey. You can use powder over cream however.
  • To layer cream eyeshadow for a more dramatic look allow it to dry between applications.
  • Pinks also go well with blue eyes.

EYELASH CURLER

  • Use after applying mascara for best results as it curls the lashes to open up the eyes even more.
  • Heat under running water and then clamp your lashes and pump the curler gently a few times.

LIQUID EYELINERS

  • Remove as much excess eyeliner from the tip before application to create a neat line.
  • Choose an eyeliner with a narrow, flexible brush or tip.
  • Liquid eyeliner creates lines quickly and neatly once you get the hang of it.
EYELASH COMB
  • Brush it through your lashes after applying mascara to separate them.

KOHL EYELINER

  • A softer variation of eyeliner, usually in pencil form, it smudges easier than other eyeliners so is ideal to create smoky eyes.
  • Sharpen your pencil before each use to keep it hygienic. Always cover after use.

FALSE LASHES

  • Apply the adhesive, leave for 10 seconds until it becomes sticky and gently place the lashes on your lid using tweezers. Press down on the outer corners to fix them.
  • False lashes come in different sizes to create drama for a night out or a little more volume for a day look.

EYESHADOW BRUSH

  • Tap excess powder off the brush to avoid streaking.
  • An eyeshadow brush should be soft for easy blending.

EYE MAKE-UP REMOVER

  • Make-up removers that contain a balance of oil and water are gentler on the eyes.
