Beware of the calories lurking in your favourite spreads and sauces:

  • If you want to add a little fat to your sandwich, swop mayonnaise for avocado or guacamole.
  • Check the nutritional information on store-bought salad dressings – creamy salad dressings pack a calorific punch. Rather drizzle olive oil and balsamic vinegar over your salad.
  • Swop the butter or margarine on your morning toast with hummus. The latter has loads of fibre and tastes great.
