"Emotionally spent after a day in court, @OscarPistorius falls asleep with his godson, niece and nephew."

While advocates Barry Roux and Gerrie Nel caused a stir in the High Court in Pretoria, Carl Pistorius did the same on Twitter.

Carl, brother of the former Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius is known for being fairly active on social media , especially Twitter.

On Tuesday night, he shared a picture of Oscar, apparently asleep on a couch , surrounded by family members.

"Emotionally spent after a day in court, falls asleep with his godson, niece and nephew."

The picture has provoked an avalanche of comments, from praise for Carl about how he supported Oscar to furious attacks about whether the photo was just a publicity stunt for sympathy.

Oscar's lawyer Barry Roux faced similar criticism after delivering his closing arguments in court today.

The advocate had Oscar, who was convicted of murder for the Valentines Day killing of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in last year, take of his prosthetic legs and stand before the court on his stumps.

“This is the person, it’s 03.00 in the morning, he is on his stumps,” Roux told the court. “He suffers from an anxiety disorder. When he was on his stumps his balance was compromised.

“He was anxious, he was frightened. This must all be seen in the context of his disability and the pervasive thinking."

In his closing argument, the State's Gerrie Nel argued that the court should not give too much weight to Oscar’s personal circumstances when sentencing him for murder. “In the case of a serious crime, the personal circumstances of the accused will recede into the background. This is a very, very serious offence.” He called for Oscar to be given a minimum of 15 years behind bars for the crime. Oscar will know his fate on 6 July.
