A 36-year-old man and his daughter's newborn baby was taken away by Spanish authorities soon after she was born.

The father, who has been named only as Cris, and 18-year-old Sara claim they are in a loving relationship and want to keep their child. The infant was removed by social workers soon after she was born, over concerns Cris may be abusing his ex-wife, Sara's mother.
'Our relationship started like they all do, with flirting, getting along and then trust'
The two are from the small Spanish island of Mallorca, where incest is not against the law, provided it is between two consenting adults. "Our relationship started like they all do, with flirting, getting along and then trust," Cris told local newspaper, Cronica Balear. "We may be father and daughter but she has never seen me as a parent because I am much more like a friend than a father figure." Cris denies abusing his wife, saying she made the claims because she was "jealous and cannot understand the relationship". While pregnant with their child, Sara was told she would have to give the baby up for adoption or raise her alone.

"My relationship may be unusual but it would be worse for a child to be given up for adoption or grow up in a centre," Sara said of the child, who is technically her half-sister. "People say (the relationship) is wrong, well I respect their opinion but I do not care."
