Find your passion

Having a passion for something means you’re more than willing to put time and effort into it. In fact, it’s something you love so much it feels effortless.

Passion refers to a strong feeling or emotion about something, and could be the impetus that spurs you forwards. You could be passionate about anything, be it baking, taking photos, keeping your books neat or helping abandoned animals. You could even be passionate about helping others who need it most.

Here are some tips on how to find yours:

Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it

It’s easy to dismiss opportunities we feel won’t excite us, or aren’t deemed cool. Your granny might invite you to  visit her crochet exhibition. Say yes. You may meet someone interesting, or find that you’d like to take up the hobby yourself. Put yourself in new situations, think outside the box and don’t be afraid to try something new.

Don’t worry about what the world needs.  Ask what makes you come alive and do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive. – American civil rights leader Howard Thurman

We couldn’t agree more. Ever found yourself doing something and completely losing track of time? Like making a nice birthday card or playing a musical instrument? That’s a sign you’re busy with something you feel passionate about. The great thing about passion is that if you keep at it, you could end up also making others happy by doing what you love. Just imagine how dull things would’ve been if your favourite singer didn’t pursue their passion.

There’s no passion to be found playing small in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living. – Nelson Mandela

Own your uniqueness. Make the effort to find out what makes you special, and then amplify those amazing qualities. If you’re a good listener, then spread the love and listen to those who need a trusted person to hear them out.

Get a mentor

Once you’ve identified what makes you tick, try to find someone who excels in that field. If you love writing, contact a publishing house and ask them what sort of tips they’ve got for aspiring writers. Most people love passing on some advice in their field of expertise.
