What makes a woman sexy?

Confidence and being comfortable in your own skin.

When you were growing up, were you ever self-conscious about your body?

I always thought I had fat lips. They just stood out. And my big frizzy hair was unruly.

What was your reaction when the Schwarzkopf Nectra Color hair commercial went viral?

It was a huge surprise! I had no idea it would have such a big response.

Do more people recognise you because they’ve seen you in the commercial?

Yes – a lot of businesspeople recognise me because of the advert. People always remember my co-star, Janez Vermeiren – the ladies love him!

You play bad girl Bianca in the new local film Konfetti. What was that experience like?

It was amazing. I really had fun playing Bianca, although I’m more used to playing the girl-next-door.

What are you currently working on?

I’m in Cape Town working on an American sci-fi series called Dominion, a supernatural drama set in the year 25 A.E. It will be airing in the US in June.

Which character do you play in Dominion?

I play a soldier. I get to do hand-to-hand combat fighting! I auditioned for the role three times until I got the part.

How do you stay in shape?

I don’t think I’m in great shape at the moment. But I run a lot and eat more protein and less carbohydrates.

How do you unwind?

I play golf. I started a golf clinic called Kim Engelbrecht’s Wander Women Ladies Golf Clinic in Johannesburg, where we teach women how to play golf. I want to encourage more women to get into the sport, to let women know that you don’t know how good you are until you try.

What lessons have shaped you into the woman you are today?

My mom, Gwen, taught me resilience. She taught me and my three siblings to carry on no matter what. I also got my sense of humour from her.
