When a four-year old boy of West Bengal, India, complained of severe stomach ache doctors suspected he had a tumour.

But after doing a scan they were amazed to see the pain was caused by a dead foetus in the boy’s abdomen.
'The dead embryo which had hands, legs, nails and a partially formed head was removed from the child’s body'

“The dead embryo which had hands, legs, nails and a partially formed head was removed from the child’s body after a long operation,” Dr Shirshendu Giri told International Business times.

Despite his ordeal the boy is making a good recovery.

Dr Girit explained the boy had had a very rare medical condition called fetus in fetu, commonly known as “baby inside a baby”.

It occurs when a foetus doesn’t develop fully and is absorbed into the body of its twin at an early stage of the pregnancy.

The foetus then becomes like a parasite and starts starts living off its host, in this case the four-year-old boy.

There have been only about 100 recorded cases of fetus in fetu worldwide.
