Ford’s EcoSport, which is a compact SUV, has arrived in South Africa and rivals vehicles such as the Nissan Juke and Suzuki SX4.

According to Ford the EcoSport is available in eight colours, three engine options and three trim levels ? Ambiente, Trend and Titanium.

The 1,0-litre EcoBoost engine delivers similar power to a traditional 1,6-litre unit. It produces 92 kW of power with a peak torque of 170 Nm. This engine has won the coveted title of International Engine of the Year for the past two years. Ford claims an average fuel consumption of 5,7 litres/100 km.

Then there’s a more conventional 1,5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine which develops 82 kW of power and 138 Nm of torque. It uses an average of 6,5 litres/100 km on a combined cycle.

For customers who prefer diesel, there’s Ford’s 1,5-litre TDCi turbocharged diesel engine. Power is rated at 66 kW and torque at 205 Nm. According to Ford the combined fuel consumption is 4,6 litres/100 km.

A five-speed manual transmission is standard on all models except the 1,5-litre petrol Titanium model, which has a six-speed automatic transmission.

The EcoSport has all the must-have comfort features which include Ford’s SYNC® system, which is a voice-activated in-car connectivity system powered by Microsoft.
