A four-year-old in the UK has drowned after reaching into the bath for a toy, while her mom was downstairs talking on her phone, an inquest into the girl's death has heard.

The little one was found face down in 38 centimeters of water by her mother who believes she slipped on a bathmat as she tried to reach her toy ducks.
'I had a sense that something was not right '

According to the testimony of Nicole Carr, the mother of four-year-old Summer Shaw, she had put her daughter to bed at around 7.30pm and run herself a bath.

She then went downstairs to make a phone call. After she had gone downstairs Summer got out of bed and went into the bathroom to play with her bath toys and while reaching for a toy she fell in and drowned.

“I had a sense that something was not right and went back upstairs to have a bath. I saw Summer’s toy dog on the floor…It was the one she had to ward off bad dreams. There was a bath mat which had been moved. The bath which I topped up hadn’t any bubbles in before but now it was full of bubbles.”

Summer’s mother had desperately tried to revive her but the tot was eventually pronounced dead Rotherham District Hospital.  The coroner on the case, Nicola Mundy has declared the incident accidental calling it “the most tragic of accidents.”
