Friends and family in shock after Pretoria couple die in ‘domestic violence incident’

Neighbours called the police after they heard shots being fired. A grisly scene awaited them inside.

For friends and family the news of the death of Pretoria married couple André en Mirinda Nortjé who died in a domestic violence incident is a total mystery.

To everyone else, the couple seemed so happy and in love.

André en Mirinda were found dead on Friday morning at their home in Akasia, Pretoria. The neighbours alerted the police because they heard shots being fired.

The couple was found with bullet wounds to the chest. On Thursday police confirmed that they death as a result of “domestic violence.”

According to Captain Matthews Nkoadi, police spokesperson, they are already busy with an official post mortem.

“This will show if the deceased (André) shot his wife and then himself,” he says.

On Facebook Mirinda’s friends and family shared their shock at the incident.

“Rest well, Mirinda Nortje. Our hearts are so sore and we can’t understand how something like this could have happened. You will always live on in our hearts!” wrote Marvic and Tanya Rijnen, alongside a photo of a smiling Mirinda on their Facebook page.

Mirinda’s cousin, Carolynn van Zyl, also opened her heart over the death of her cousin, whom she described as being like a sister to her.

“Life as I knew it will never be the same without you, Mirinda Nortje,” she wrote.

“You were a role model… you were my sister, even though you were my cousin…life is difficult.”

“All the messages won’t bring you back.”

“People don’t understand the loss of a family member if it’s not their own.”

“I know you would want us all to carry on and reach our goals. My heart longs to be half the woman you…you were an angel,” reads the post.
