From Disney darlings to delinquent divas

When fresh-faced stars your young kids idolise become in-your-face prima donnas who make parents worldwide cringe . . .

We know them, the fresh-faced pre-teen and teen stars singing, dancing and acting their way into the hearts of young kids around the globe . . .

Fast-forward a few years, and just about everybody in the family knows who they are . . . for reasons that make us cringe and turn off the TV when the little ones are in the room.

Here are five of the worst Disney disasters who’ve risen to fame and then so spectacularly fallen from grace:

1. Miley Cyrus

She became a household name as Hannah Montana, the sweet and talkative ordinary teen who led a double life as a famous pop star. Before we had time to blink she was singing Can’t Be Tamed, which seemed a bit risqué at the time, but doesn’t hold a candle to her We Can’t Stop tune which hints at drug use, strip clubs and partying all night.

Now the 20-year-old’s trashed even that persona in favour of her more recent image as an attention-seeking, twerker who needs to take her gyrating moves off-stage to less public spaces. She’s also managed to weave her way into the English dictionary, something from which we have yet to recover.

2. Britney Spears

She started out at The Mickey Mouse Club at age 11. A few years later she blasted on to the scene with her well-known hit Baby One More Time. Miss Spears became Disney’s first pop princess, producing hit after hit alongside her equally successful celeb beau, Justin Timberlake. Sadly, as fast as her star rose to fame, it fell even faster and harder, crashing into a million pieces with everyone watching.

From her record 55-hour marriage in 2004 to her childhood friend to her rocky marriage to dancer Kevin Federline to the infamous Madonna kiss, her head-shaving crisis and her eventual stay at a treatment facility, Britney had a public personal breakdown that was well-documented.

But this 31-year-old has proved she can survive just about anything that’s thrown at her . . .

3. Lindsay Lohan

We all knew her as the adorable, freckled redhead in Disney’s remake of The Parent Trap.

But she soon became more famous for the bad publicity that seemed to follow her wherever she went, from emerging from cars without underwear, to substance abuse, plastic surgery and constant trips to rehab centres that seemed to do little if any good. LiLo has been under constant scrutiny for her never-ending chaotic life.

The twenty-seven-year-old was recently released from rehab again and after appearing on Oprah in a tell-all exclusive, there seems to be some hope for the troubled actress.

4. Vanessa Hudgens

The twenty-four-year-old is best known for her role as Gabriella Montez in the High School Musical series and her equally cute relationship with actor Zac Efron.

But after a nude pic and one of the her posing in lingerie were leaked online in 2007 we began to see that perhaps there’s more to the squeaky clean image than we thought we knew.

But it doesn’t end there. Not learning from the first time, Vanessa repeated the mistake and further pics were leaked in 2009 and 2011. Fortunately for her, her antics seem to have stopped.

5. Demi Lovato

She made her debut on TV in Barney & Friends. After her role in Camp Rock and her own television series, Sonny with a Chance, as well as being signed to Hollywood Records, the talented singer and actress was set to go far, but with numerous personal issues such as bulimia, self-harming, bipolar disorder, self-medicating with drugs and alcohol, and anger issues which resulted in her punching a female back-up dancer in a confrontation, Demi soon sought help.

The 21-year-old star has been open about her numerous issues and has been using her experiences to help others in campaigns that empower teens. She seems like the one fallen star who’s risen up from the ashes in order to use her experiences positively to encourage others.

If you’re wondering why we didn’t included Amanda Bynes, it’s because she was a Nickelodeon star; c’mon, Disney can handle only so many fallen darlings!
