A fugitive Roodepoort couple accused of murdering their 5-month-old baby could face a second murder charge for the death of their other infant, Netwerk24 reported on Wednesday.

Junaid Adam-Shaik and Stacey-Lee van der Ross are accused of abusing their baby Alaia so badly that she died five months after her birth in 2012.

The couple are now accused of murdering a second baby, Amanee, who was born in December 2013. Three months later she was dead.

Beeld reported that at one point, Alaia’s arm was so badly broken that a doctor said her injury was equivalent to a fall from a two-storey building. Her other injuries included abrasions and other broken bones.

Now it has emerged that their second baby, Amanee, had allegedly been “choked”.

The couple reportedly fled after hearing that a second murder charge would be added to their charge sheet.

They were out on bail of R5 000 and were due to appear in court in February, but failed to turn up.

According to a report in the Saturday Star in March, police are in possession of Adam-Shaik’s passport and the couple’s relatives have not heard from them.

Their bail has also been revoked, the National Prosecuting Authority said.
