She first grabbed attention as the agile tree climber Rue in The Hunger Games, and now Amandla (15) is one of the cute voices in animated flick Rio 2

- Her mom, Karen Brailsford, is African-American and her dad, Tom Stenberg, is Danish. Amandla was born in Los Angeles.

- She got her name Amandla (which means “power” in isiZulu) from jazz legend Miles Davis’ 1989 album Amandla, which her mom was crazy about.

- She also plays the violin, guitar and drums and has already performed with her school’s band at the famous Hard Rock Cafe and the House of Blues. “I also spend hopelessly too much time behind my computer,” she says.

- It was great fun working with Jennifer Lawrence on The Hunger Games, she says. “She’s unbelievably funny. She keeps the atmosphere nice and light.”

- Her special talent? She’s a whizz at doing accents and had to do a Spanish one for her role as a young Zoe Saldana in Colombiana.

- She’s good friends with teen stylist Tavi Gevinson of the blog Style Rookie. “You like all the same things as me and you’re so down-to-earth,” Tavi told Amandla during an interview.

- Amandla is an ambassador for US charity organisation No Kid Hungry and supports the Ubuntu Education Fund, which helps educate children in Port Elizabeth.
