"It’s time we broke outside our South African borders and reach the rest of the world."

It’s a cold winter’s morning in Bryanston, Johannesburg and a small group of journalists as well as entertainment industry heavyweights, such as hip hop sensation AKA, are being treated to breakfast by former Metro FM DJ Tbo Touch (Thabo Molefe).

We are at The Higher Ground restaurant and giggle nervously as we are strapped into our chairs knowing very well what’s coming. Shortly we will be launched 50m into the air to tuck into some scrumptious breakfast wraps while enjoying MUMM champagne as we await the “big announcement” Tbo Touch has planned to make. A lot of people were curious to discover what Touch’s new venture would entail since his announcement that he had resigned from Metro FM’s “The Touch Down” afternoon drive show that he’d hosted for 11 years.

Evidently, Tbo Touch has had a couple of aces up his sleeve and on this chilly morning he was ready to play them.

Touch and founder of www.cliffcentral.com, Gareth Cliff, have partnered to launch a 24-hour live streaming music channel called Touch Central. In 2014 Gareth Cliff left 5FM to launch Cliffcentral.com – an online content hub that revolutionized radio broadcasting which today boasts the highest number of podcast downloads on the African continent. On June 21st 2016, Tbo Touch announced his resignation from Metro FM and has now revealed the launch of www.touchcentral.fm which will offer a music, lifestyle and talk platform alongside www.cliffcentral.com.

“We bumped into each other at a party and just started talking. I asked him what he was planning on doing next and he said he has a thousand different ideas,” says Gareth Cliff.

“What we are going to do is launch the first ever, 24 hour online music channel free,” he says. “An important disclaimer to mention is that Touch Central will be free to the first 1 million subscribers i.e. the first 1 million people to subscribe to touchcentral.fm will stream for free,” says Tbo Touch.

Touch and Gareth will broadcast on www.touchcentral.fm Mondays to Fridays with Gareth Cliff continuing with his uncensored breakfast show between 6:00 and 9:00 while Touch brings his highly acclaimed “Touch Down” afternoon drive show between 15:00 and 19:00.

Touch Central goes live on 29th August 2016, and although details about the line up are being kept under wraps for now, Tbo Touch promises fans can look forward to world class DJ’s.

“It’s time we broke outside our South African borders and reach the rest of the world,” says Touch. Touch added on Twitter that he’s already “secured the biggest interview for the day they launch.” But those are details he’s not willing to share just yet. Also in attendance at the breakfast was South African Hip Hop sensation, AKA, who shared his excitement of the upcoming venture. “I think that Touch and Gareth have always been pioneers. People want to see how far they can push the envelope and this launch is pretty much in that vain,” AKA said.

“Good luck to them and I’m sure we’ll all see the results of this in the coming years. Both Touch and Gareth are excited about this future prospect and promise to reveal more details as over the next few weeks leading up to the launch.

“Partnering with Touch is a revolutionary opportunity to combine our respective ideas and experience in creating an online megastation that is relevant and authentic,” says Gareth.

Touch concurs; “I’ve never been so excited about a partnership in my life. We’re just two South African boys making magic,” he says.
