The rumours are true! Gareth Cliff is indeed teaming up with social media platform WeChat when he launches his new online radio station CliffCentral on 1 May.

CliffCentral will be available via WeChat streaming and according to Brett Loubser, MD of WeChat Africa, will include a mash-up of functionalities like voice and video clips and chat groups. It's not just about streaming. That's only the beginning of the experience the CliffCentral OA (Official Account) on WeChat has to offer. This is not radio as we know it", Brett adds. The former 5FM DJ says he's terribly excited at the prospect of having his own space where he can be uncensored and "free from BCCSA complaints". While working for the SABC, Gareth's controversial views has landed him in hot water with the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of South Africa.

'It will be multi-faceted and free from suspensions, restrictions or BCCSA complaints'

"What I’m most excited about, is our partnership with WeChat. CliffCentral will have its own OA on WeChat and that’s where the magic is going to happen.”

Listeners can join Gareth's original breakfast team with newsreader Leigh-Anne Mol, producer Damon Kalvari and traffic reporter Mabale Moloi on The Gareth Cliff Show on CliffCentral from 6am – 9am from May 1st.

Here's a sneak peek of Gareth's TV ad that will be on screen this week.
