George Clooney is said to have "the name recognition" to succeed in politics.

George Clooney is said to have "the name recognition" to succeed in politics. It was rumoured earlier this year that the actor-and-director was going to run for office. And following his marriage to British lawyer Amal Alamuddin last month, the reports of a shift to politics have picked up pace once again. "If the incumbents don't run again, there could be senate seats up for grabs in 2016 and 2018 in California, as well as the governorship in 2018," Sherry Bebitch Jeffe, a public policy professor at the University of Southern California, told British magazine Grazia. "We are not averse to actors here and he has the name recognition."

'George will run for office now, especially after his marriage to Amal, as that will open so many doors for him'

George wouldn't be the first star to make the move. Terminator's Arnold Schwarzenegger was elected governor of California, while President Ronald Reagan initially started out in cowboy films. And with his human rights lawyer wife by his side, George could become a force to be reckoned with in political circles. British bookmaker firm William Hill agree and have slashed their odds of George becoming president from 200/1 to 100/1.

"If he did decide to run for president he ticks a lot of boxes," a spokesperson said.

However, despite the reports, the newlywed has shot down any talk of him vying for presidency.

"Take a look at politics, you tell me what seems appealing about that," he said to an interviewer.

But even his family think he would succeed in the world of politics.

"George will run for office now, especially after his marriage to Amal, as that will open so many doors for him," his aunt Starla Clooney said to British newspaper the Daily Mail.
