Google has just created an online portal where voters can keep an eye on the latest news about South African politics in the run-up to the general election on 7 May.

The portal is a one-stop resource and contains information about parties, candidates, voter information and election news. It also indicates what political news South Africans search for on Google.

Any news, videos and digital media to have appeared about the election or the parties are collected in one place. You can also access the portal from your cellphone.

In a press release, Google says the internet is playing increasingly major role in the way political parties and voters take part in elections in Africa.

“The internet now makes it easier than ever for voters to actively take part, but there’s still a lot more that can be done. The run-up to this important election in South Africa is a golden opportunity for candidates and South Africans to make use of the internet and Google’s renewing resources,” Fortune Mgwili-Sibanda of Google said.
