It seems the Western Cape Government have a knack for hard-hitting campaign videos.

It seems the Western Cape Government have a knack for hard-hitting campaign videos that certainly drive their point home.

Sometimes, as with their previous Safely Home campaign video, they achieve little more than flack for their ‘derogatory’ clips. But this time round it's praise abound for the advertisement, as viewers stand in agreement that texting and driving is utterly dangerous.

The video starts off hilariously relatable, with people bumping into each other while crossing a road or slipping down a flight of stairs because they’re walking with their faces glued to their cell phone screens.

The words, ‘You can’t even text and walk’ appear across the screen before the video takes an eerie turn.

The clip, which was released as part of its #ItCanWait campaign, switches to a girl texting and driving. She’s so lost in her phone, she crashes the car she’s driving.

The impact of the crash causes the car to tumble and the girl can be seen lifelessly hanging upside down once the car comes to a standstill.

The video ends with the chilling words, ‘So why do you text and drive?’

The 40-second clip was well-received on social media, with many complimenting the government for their intuitive concept.
