Gwyneth Paltrow would ideally have ten hours sleep a night. The 41-year-old actress is famed for her svelte figure, which is the result of punishing workouts. She used to stick to a macrobiotic diet too but has loosened that up over the years, with the star insisting these days it's rest which helps her look her best.

'Ideally, I'd like ten hours sleep a night, but I find seven or eight keeps me going'

"Before you even think about dieting, first try to get more sleep. It plays a powerful role in determining your appetite and energy. Ideally, I'd like ten hours sleep a night, but I find seven or eight keeps me going," she explained to British magazine InStyle.

Gwyneth is a devotee of exercise guru Tracy Anderson, who she's worked with for years. The actress credits her with keeping her lean, with Tracy previously insisting it's Gwyneth's dedication to the gym which ensures her figure.

"When it comes to exercise, I work my ass off - literally! I do Tracy Anderson's method five days a week," Gwyneth revealed. "I drop my kids at school and go straight to the gym to get it out of the way. Tracy once said to me, 'Think of it like brushing your teeth - just get up and do it.' So that's what I do. I do an hour of dance aerobics and some muscular structure work with light weights."

Although the star insists she doesn't deny herself any food, she is careful about what she eats. She likes anything she takes on board to be nutritious, especially as she's so busy.

"I don't have time to relax after the gym, so I'll grab a green juice and head to work. I also drink tons of water to stay hydrated and I have this packet of magnesium and calcium that I sometimes add - it's full of vitamins and very calming," she explained.
