Harry Potter – with stubble

It’s nine years since they burst onto the big screen – and how different they are now. They’ve grown up in front of our eyes, changing from adorable pipsqueaks into brooding adults.

Daniel RadcliffeEmma Watson and Rupert Grint have cast a spell over Harry Potter fans asHarryHermione and Ron and now as the blockbuster movie series winds to a close the trio are preparing to bid farewell to the roles that have turned them into household names.

But they’re not bowing out without a fight. In pictures promoting Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 the young stars look positively scary. And in Daniel and Rupert’s case hairy too with pronounced chin and upper-lip stubble.

Initially producers tried to condense all the action of author JK Rowling’s seventh and final book into one movie but it soon became clear that too much would have to be left out.

Finally it was decided to release the movie in two parts thus gaining an extra 90 minutes of screen time. The first kicks off at local cinemas later this month and the second will be released next year.

Joining Potter veterans Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange), Alan Rickman (Professor Snape), Maggie Smith (Professor McGonagall), Ralph Fiennes (Voldemort) and Robbie Coltrane(Hagrid) are newcomers Bill Nighy (Minister of Magic, Rufus Scrimgeour) and Rhys Ifans (Luna Lovegood’s eccentric father, Xenophilius).

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows™ – Part 1 opens in SA on 26 November.
