Harry, the people’s prince

“Harry is the naughty one, just like me,” Princess Diana once said of her younger son. And she was right – the flame-haired prince has shown his penchant for fun and parties more times than the royal family’s overworked public relations machine would care to remember.

Harry’s playful streak was in evidence during his recent tour of the Caribbean and Brazil. In Jamaica he took on world 100-m record-holder Usain Bolt – and beat him by giving the sprint sensation a fright when his back was turned and putting him off his stride. The media loved it.

Yet it’s obvious the 27-year-old prince shares more with his mother than her lighter side. He also possesses the qualities that made Diana adored the world over: an effortless popular touch, easy charm and genuine warmth.

And during one poignant scene in the Bahamas he looked very much his mother’s son when he gently bent his head to talk to Anna Albury, a 12-year-old girl who was born blind.

“Harry has real charisma,” says Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine. “He reminds me so much of his late mother. People love him.”
