Are you a total caffeine junkie and aren’t sure how to quit? Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered.

How to know if you’re hooked:

On days when you don’t have coffee, or fizzy or energy drinks you feel sluggish, get a headache and constantly feel irritated. If you can relate with any of these, you’re probably addicted to caffeine. Teens between 13 and 18 shouldn’t consume more than 100mg a day. Adults can consume 400mg.

How to quit:

  1. Keep tabs on how much caffeine you consume in a day: A cup of coffee has 100 milligrams, an energy drink 80 mg and a fizzy drink 30 to 40 mg.
  2. Drink half that amount for three days at first, then half of that for the next three days. On day seven, have a few sips and on day eight, have none. Cutting back slowly lets your body adjust, so you won’t get headaches or feel tired.

BEWARE!

Also beware some of your other favourite drinks contain caffeine too. Check it out!

340 ml ice tea = 4,6 mg per 100 ml

90 g slab of chocolate = 28 g (one cup of decaf coffee)

340 ml Coca Cola = 10 mg per 100 ml
