An old classic with a healthy twist, this is the kind of French toast the whole family can enjoy!

Make it with fiber-rich wholegrain bread rather than white, and mix the egg with low-fat or fat-free milk for a calcium boost. Instead of butter, spray the pan with spray & cook. Top off the toast with sliced fruit or fruit preserves.

Serving size for toddler: 4 soldiers

You’ll need:

5 slices low-GI bread (cut each one lengthways into 4 equal strips or ‘soldiers’)

2 eggs

½ cup milk

½ tsp. cinnamon

1 tbsp. butter

2 tsp. honey

How to make it

In a shallow bowl whisk the eggs, milk, cinnamon and honey until combined. Dip each soldier in the mixture until evenly coated. Heat a pan (medium heat) with a bit of butter (or spray & cook) and cook for 3 min. on each side until golden brown and cooked through. Traditionally, French toast is served with honey/syrup. To make this meal even more nutritious, serve with fresh seasonal fruit instead.
