In a navy suit and striped blue tie, Henri van Breda was solemn as he appeared in the Western Cape High Court for his pre-trial hearing.

The triple-murder accused's pre-trial* was postponed until 18 November this year, after the State told the court they have not yet finished their investigation.

Scroll down for video Henri's trial will begin next year, on 6 February.

The 21 year old is accused of killing his parents, Martin (54) and Teresa (55), and his brother Rudi (22) in their home on the De Zalze golf estate in Stellenbosch in the early hours of Tuesday, January 27, 2015.

They were killed with an axe.

His sister Marli (17) survived the attack, but sustained serious brain injuries. She is on the list of State witnesses expected to testify against him.

She suffered from retrograde amnesia and it was still unclear if she would be able to remember anything about what happened that morning.

After Marli's recovery, she saw her brother briefly. However, the two were separated again. One of Henri's bail conditions was that he could not contact anyone on the list of witnesses until the end of his trial.

Henri faces three counts of murder, one of attempted murder, and one of obstructing the course of justice. He handed himself to police in June this year and was granted bail of R100 000 on June 14.

NPA says they have 141 witnesses. They're adamant they have a case against the accused who they say gave false information.

Henri is being represented by Pieter Botha, who was part of Shrien Dewani's legal team.

*A pre-trial conference is held before the actual trial, where the prosecution and the defence meet in front of the presiding officer – in this case the judge – to have a preliminary meeting.

During this conference, issues like what evidence will be admissible in court are discussed to ensure that court proceedings during the actual trial can move swiftly.
