The young mom was shocked when she saw the viral video - and then she realised the baby girl was her daughter.

A babysitter is being investigated by Child Services in the US after a distressing video of a seven-month-old baby being doused with water at a water park went viral.

In the video the carer, from Indiana in the US, is seen standing by as the little girl in her charge is splashed by a large amount of water at the Greenwood Splash Pad.

She then picks up the child after she starts crying.

The video was shared by bystander Desiree Howell on her Facebook timeline.

"You have got to be kidding me!!!!!", she captioned the video.

"She is abusing this child. Baby is crying. And swallowing this water. Pray this baby won't drown in her sleep!!! She has been yelling at her telling her to get over it. Its part of being a kid. Heard this baby is only 7 months old....AND NOT HERS!!!!! SHARE SHARE SHARE!!!!!"

Desiree, who was also visiting the park with her own children that day, says she heard the woman tell the little girl that she "needed to get used to the water."

She also claims she saw the babysitter forcing the infant to walk on the hot pavement barefoot, and putting her in a high swing that "jerked" the little girl's head back.

After calling the police, she posted the video on Facebook in hope of identifying the sitter.

The video was shared thousands of times. Eventually the baby's mother Brittany Dixson happened upon the clip while she was at work -- and was horrified to discover it was her daughter, Annora.

"All I see is the baby sitting down and then like the back of the baby," the 19-year-old single mom said.

"Then I saw the babysitter and I kept looking at it. I'm like surely enough that's not my baby.

"I was literally hysterically crying. I was shaking."

Reports suggests Brittany immediately went and picked Annora up, firing the babysitter on the spot.

“She was basically apologising to me the whole time telling me how she’s so sorry, she really didn’t know that was the bucket that had the most water in it that dumped on her,” she told WISH TV, adding she believes the woman just had "poor judgement".

It's unclear whether the police Desiree notified arrived at the scene.

Brittany took Annora to the hospital, where doctors gave her the all-clear.

Brittany was told Annora might have experienced a "dry drowning", during which the little girl would have inhaled water through her nose or mouth, causing a spasm in an airway.

The case has reportedly been sent to the Indiana Department of Child Services for further investigation.

In the aftermath, Desiree said she couldn’t believe how quickly she was able to find the baby's mom.

The experience has been “crazy", she said. “All I wanted was to find the parents of the sweet innocent little girl. I didn’t think it would explode like this."
