A video of a cancer patient who "married" one of the male nurses at the hospital where she's receiving treatment has gone viral.

Little Abby Sayles has been battling leukaemia for the past year, and getting chemotherapy at Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at Albany Medical, the Albany Times Union reports.

Abby is in remission, but she undergoes chemo every second week to keep her symptom-free. Over the months she developed a close friendship with nurse Matt Hickling (29) - so, naturally, she decided to propose.

"I'm getting married on Thursday," Abby matter-of-factly announced to her mom Renee.

"To whom?" Renne asked, to which her daughter simply replied, "Matt."

Renee thought Matt should be notified of this.

“I sent him a text message just to give him a heads up that this was an idea that was in her head, just so he was not in shock,” she told a local TV station.

The next day, Abby popped the question.

“I had to be hard, to play hard to get, and she was looking right at me with those eyes,” Matt said. But, much to Abby's delight, he said yes.

The hospital staff got to work planning a wedding for the young patient, even organising cake, bouquets and decor.

A local florist even donated a basket of flowers shaped like a puppy.

The hummed the tune to Here Comes the Bride as she walked down the aisle, in a white satin dress. her groom donned a t-shirt with a tuxedo print.

After the ceremony, 'newlywed' Abby was asked whether she was happy to be “married.”

“Yeah!" she gushed. "This is my first time to be married!”
